glitter hands glitter hands

Our sitter decided to do crafts with Emma one day and that is great, except she introduced Emma to the world of glitter. For a whole month Emma became obsessed with glitter. She would walk around the apartment as if she were the Pope blessing everything in site with Holy glitter. Once we got back from Tampa, I hid the glitter so out of sight, out of mind. Until yesterday. I rearranged my desk to make room for my new, lovely toy (a 27 inch iMac) and placed the glitter behind the screen. Somehow she found it because when I got home last night, Anthony told me the funniest story. Apparently he was in the kitchen and Emma was not. Right there I can tell you where he went wrong. Anyway, he told me how she came into the kitchen with a shaker of glitter in each hand and held them up and said "I'm sorry, I'm Sorry". He continued to tell me how he traced her steps and didn't see anything, until he got to her room and in the middle of her carpet were two giant ant hill mounds of red and gold glitter. At least she came to find him and had the sense of having done something she wasn't supposed to have done. I now know she clearly has a sense of right from wrong and I just wish she would channel that more often.

too cute

This picture just made me laugh and it reminded me of one of Emma from when she was just 9 months old.

Book of the Week

This book is quite appropriate for today as snow is covering the streets of NY with a pristine white blanket. I saw this book, NO by Claudia Rueda, at a Museum gift shop in Mexico and I was immediately taken by the illustrations. I guess by now you know that I do judge a book by its cover.
The story didn't let me down, it is a simple story that has been told before, but if you have a toddler who is starting to question everything you ask of them and seems to want to explore beyond your peripheral vision, this book will surely speak to you. This is a sweet tale of baby bear who basically has a smart answer for everything his mom asks him to do. Sound familiar? There comes a big snow storm and baby bear gets lost. I will not tell you more, (as to not ruin the book) but if your child loves bears, snow and is testing you, this is a book you must read together.

water go down the hole

I knew I forgot about something Emma did this weekend. Emma is in the early stages of potty training. She shows interest and sometimes is patient and others times she gives up. She has now graduated herself to using the real toilet and she looks so cute sitting on it, with her little legs dangling. I must say she really has great balancing skills. Anyway, she knows you need to wipe and flush. She has become quite the fan of flushing and the other day we made the mistake of leaving her unattended in the bathroom and she proceed to break off toilet paper and flush it. But the thing is, she basically undid a Charmin Mega roll and tried flushing all of it down at once and that didn't go so well. Luckily it was just paper. I was laughing because it just reminded me of the Tiny Toons episode where Plucky duck is getting potty trained. It could have been something more serious or more damaging where plumbers and supers could have been involved, but it was just a huge wad of paper and Moma to the rescue.
The next day she said "peepee" and ran to the bathroom, I followed her but she came back out rather quickly and she wasn't wearing a diaper. I was so proud that she took off her own but when I went to take a shower I noticed her diaper in the toilet halfway down the hole. Sigh. We will be buying a lock for the toilet very soon. It is funny though because she has the concept down so well.

classics always stay in style

this is Emma's Alice dress

This was my favorite nightgown because I loved how long it was. It made me feel like a princess. I even remember the day it no longer fit me.

I found some of my old clothing back home and saw that they were still in good condition. They were when I was three, close to 4, maybe, and they fit Emma perfectly. She looks really cute in them and I notice how she likes wearing dresses. She always says "princesa" when I or she is wearing a dress.

big girl bed

The bed, its on back order, it is coming, it is on back order again, you will get it this week, you will get it in Feb, finally an email saying "Thank you, your order is on its way". This has been me with Pottery Barn Kids for the past two weeks. Apparently this bed is SOOO popular it is continually being placed on back order, which makes me wonder why they don't stop advertising it. I will confirm today with PBK that it is indeed on its way and hopefully, fingers crossed, Miss E will have a big girl bed by this weekend. I still need to go to Ikea to get a basic mattress and buy some bed guards so she doesn't roll off the bed. I really hope this does the trick and excites her into sleeping in her bed and not on the floor and staying asleep all night long. Last night was another rough night. le sigh, I need to just carry a caffeine filled IV bag.

The countdown

I think this Up birthday party is just wonderful and no Emma's third bday will not be UP inspired.

Tomorrow marks my countdown, 8 months until Emma turns 3!! The party planning can officially begin and I must say I got the idea for her next party the day after 2nd birthday. I haven't allowed myself a chance to really get lost with the planning but tomorrow I will officially be in party planning mode. I know you must think I am insane, 8 months is a long time, but the reality of it is that 8 months is just a blink of an eye. I never have enough time to plan things one week in advance so with 8 months I will surely be right on track.
